How to Choose a Sofa for an HDB Living Room

HDB homes vary widely in layout, so there is no single 'HDB sofa'. The better approach is to match the sofa to your actual room, household and daily routine. 

Think in terms of layout 

Before choosing a sofa, identify the room's main functions. Is it primarily for TV viewing, family time, entertaining, reading or a combination? 

Then map the sofa, coffee table and TV console together. This prevents the common mistake of choosing a sofa first and trying to make everything else fit around it.

A 2 seater or compact 3 seater can be useful when floor space is limited. A 3 seater is a versatile main sofa for many households. An L-shaped or sectional sofa can work well when the room has enough width and depth to support it. 

If you are unsure, a simpler configuration gives you more flexibility with the rest of the room. 

Think about everyday use 

A sofa used every evening should be evaluated for comfort as carefully as appearance. Consider seat depth, seat height, back support and cushion firmness.
